We had a very loud morning. Alex and Adam were fighting and when Alex gets hurt he makes an awful theatrical wounding animal noise. Adam and Ariel are also enjoying sparring, but Ariel is developing a defense mechanism of sceaming, "GO AWAY" when either boy gets in a 5' radius of her. Anyway, as I was saying it was loud. And also, there was no school today and I was trying to plan a grand adventure.
9:30 Finally got enough energy summoned to get all the kids in the car for our adventure - the zoo. But first, Starbucks for fortification. I got a mocha and treated all the kids to donuts. Ariel ate her donut the Adam way, which is to say she ate the frosting off the top but left most of the cake. I also had to pry the rest away as she'd been at it for half an hour and I didn't want her to take any in the car.
11:00 Arrived at the zoo.
Ariel, our tour guide. She's saying, "Hmmm, I thought the monkeys were over here."

Not every day you see a bear in a tree.

Alex giving his best elephant shrew impersonation:

And me fooling around with shooting directly into the sun. I had my cheapy kit lens on today and I can tell it's cheap now:

Adam also giving an elephant shrew impression:

I could tell Alex had been to the zoo recently. At one point I said, "Let's go over here and see my favorite monkeys, the gibbons!" and Alex said, "Mom, those aren't gibbons, they are squirrel monkeys."
All of the kids walked most of the way around the zoo loop. We saw the primates well but skimmed the elephants and giraffes. We had a yogurt/graham cracker lunch around 12:30. We finished up the day with Tropical Discovery. Ariel was pretty excited about the komoto dragons and was getting one to chase her hand though the glass. Kind of disturbing to see when you know that dragon would eat her in a heart beat.
2:30 Left the zoo. Ariel (and Adam) fell asleep in the car.
3:15 Got home, Ariel remained asleep.
4:00 Pick up.
And, in exciting camera news, I ordered a new lens tonight. I guess this is probably for Toni - 24-70mm f/2.8 L. Did I mention, L? Mmmmmmmm, it's going to be sweet.
