Title 9k+ Race Report and Weekly Update

Nothing like running a race at the end of another high volume week. This week I had 14 1/2 hours again. On Saturday I swam an hour at master's, rode for 2 1/2 hours and ran 13 minutes. That was a compromise for the race (and also using the gym daycare so Jeremy could get a ride in). I was supposed to swim 90 minutes, ride 3 hours and run 30.

And really, for all that the race went ok. Laura and I ran together the whole way. I feel like I started out too fast but somehow pulled off a negative split in the end. My first 5k was at a 9:03 pace and the second 3 miles at 9:00. We walked the water stations and a couple tops of the hills. The race was around Boulder Reservoir and it's not the easiest course. Luckily I have a lot of practice with the course from all the triathlons and other races I've done out there.

Here's Becky with an enthusiastic finish:

And last but not least, I had my first double run day today. The idea is, rather than do a very long run, do a longer run in the morning and then a short run in the evening. The legs are still fatigued so it helps with endurance, but the break reduces the chance for injury. So after a fun filled Mexican Fiesta Mother's Day at Becky's house, I came home and ran for another easy 45 minutes. And it was a somewhat shitty run. I really should have stopped at the Starbucks at mile 1, but I thought I was ok and ran to campus. Luckily I made it to the UMC. For a while there, I wasn't sure but when I explored my options, making it to the bathroom seemed like the only real choice. And the way home was much more pleasant.

Weekly Totals:

Swim: 10600 yards (almost 6 miles!)
Bike: 87.5 miles
Run: 22 miles

That amount of swimming is ridiculous.

I had an awesome Mother's Day hanging out with you!
