Living in the arid west, we are used to wildfires, at least in the more open parts of the state. But Boulder is also vulnerable, as was proved yesterday. The front range has been dealing with Chinook winds since Christmas, and yesterday they were strong enough to blow over a few power lines that started grass fires (which makes my rage over my knocked over bird feeder and patio table seem petty). The Olde Stage Fire was about 5 miles from my house the way the crow flies, but we were never in any danger.
Last night I looked out and saw the moon ringed in smoke-induced rainbows. It reminded me of an oil spill.

The wind died down today and the fires should be contained by this afternoon. It smells like a campfire today.
Here's the Rocky's coverage.

Creepy pic of the moon. I hope the fires are completely under control by now.
