May 10, 2007

7:00 Drop off.

7:40 Left for swimming. Swimming was ok. They both had to wear fall clothes and shoes today, which didn't make either of them happy. Alex pretended to fall asleep on the way to the pool. Under the circumstances, Adam did ok, but he still needs another week of lessons, which brings me to a dilemma. Alex could be done with lessons now (he's going to try out a class tomorrow). But if he did lessons next week (which would be easy since Adam is still going) he could get a leg up on strokes and maybe get into a class with older kids. I don't know if I should ask Alex what he thinks, I know he's getting sick of lessons and he thought today was his last day. On the other hand, he won't have to swim in clothes again. Hmmmmm.

8:30 Ariel met us at the pool.

8:45 Got home.

9:30 Left for our adventure of the day - a bike ride with Ted. We rode to the dinosaur park. It's distance-wise the same as the character building ride from last week, but since it's paved and not as steep there was no complaining. I talked Ellen into having Mae ride in the double stroller with Ariel, so I didn't have to carry Ariel on my back. We met up with another of Ellen's friends so we had 9 kids, 7 on bikes.

10:15 Got to the park. Everyone played for a while. Ariel said and did the slide several times.

11:30 Got back to the car. I had to go get gas. I was going to go this morning but the station was busy. When I went back, gas had gone up $.05 and was $3.14/gallon. I put $65 in my car!!!! The part that blows me away is that I bought a plane ticket to Chicago this year for $72. Yikes.

11:45 Met Ellen at Jamba Juice. We got frappachinos and Jamba Juice and bagels. Ariel must have been hungry, she ate some egg from the bagel sandwich and even some bagel.

1:00 Got home. I had been talking to Alex about taking his training wheels off. He was exciting, so I took them off and then we practiced in the street. He rode 10 or so feet by himself, but there was a lot of crashing involved and he's not quite there. He won't ride the smaller bike, which I think would be easier for him.

Adam and Ariel rode their bikes too. Adam was on the trike and I brought out the tiny push bike Alex got for his first birthday for Ariel.

2:00 Back inside. Before Ariel went down for a nap, I shot this picture. I can't find her white hat with the flower, so she wore this one today. It matched her overalls perfectly:

While Ariel napped, the kids played inside and I folded some laundry.

4:15 We went back outside to try Alex on the little bike with Ellen's suggestion of a sweatshirt wrapped around his waist for me to hold. Not much more progress, but we will get there.

4:30 Pick up, Becky had to wake Ariel.
