August 20, 2007

Well, I had a busy weekend and it's good the kids were with Grammie. I had my first high school senior session this weekend. And I loved it. It was so nice to work with someone who could pose and hold still and WANTED their picture taken. I had time to think about composition and exposure. Here's a sneak preview (didn't hurt that she was gorgeous):

And then, on a slightly unrelated note, I dropped my camera on the tile mudroom floor. My favorite 35mm lens seems to be broken, but the camera is fine.

7:15 Drop off

7:30 Breakfast - waffles

7:45 Put in a very scary and exciting order for a new camera lens and the Canon 30D camera. Cause I've needed a new camera for a while.

8:30 Ariel down for nap.

10:00 Ariel wake up.

11:00 Left for our adventure of the day, with a stop at the post office so I could mail my lens back to Canon. Mailing that lens reminded me of a scene from Love Actually. A character is trying to buy a very inappropriate piece of jewelry for his secretary and wants it gift wrapped before his wife comes back. Mr. Bean (well, not really Mr. Bean but the character who plays Mr. Bean) takes an extraordinarily long time wrapping the gift, all the while the man is sweating buckets. So, back to me, I needed a box for my lens and the post office had a box but it was too big. So I asked if they had any newpaper to stuff in there but they didn't. Or packing peanuts. So the cashier started constructing an elaborate cardboard cushion all the while the 3 kids are going nuts. Ariel had a mini shopping cart which seemed like a good idea until she went "shopping" in the card section and I had to sort out 5 different cards and envelopes. Anyway, this whole process took 15 looong minutes.

Next, we went to Ellen's house. Ted started kindergarten today, so it was just Mae and Sam. When we got there, they were playing with a hose outside. Ariel, as Ellen said, is game for anything. She thought the sprinkler was super fun, but as I did not have her suit, it was a tad redneck:

We had a very sad lunch of tortillas and unmelted cheese. The power was out in Ellen's neighborhood, and was out the whole time we were there.

Adam, Alex and Sam had a great playdate. Alex seemed fine with Ted not being there and I'm sure Sam liked being the center of attention. They seemed to be playing a dress up with knight and Darth Vador costumes.

Redneck Darth Ariel:

2:00 Left for home. Ariel fell asleep in the car.

3:30 While surfing the internet, I came across a press release that the camera I've been wanted for a year was just released, the 40D. I called up Adorama and cancelled my 30D order. And I pre-ordered the 40D from Amazon. I am So. Flipping. Excited.

4:00 Ariel woke up.

4:30 Pick up.
